Dear St. Martin Community,
This Sunday, Jesus is asking for a definite way of life –that as disciples we are called to make a difference. Faith is more than assent of the mind—of what we believe in, but it is a way of life—of what we are called to be.
As faith is a way of life we are not to be stumbling blocks, hindering others to encounter Jesus. Our way of life is a sharing of faith one to another – “Faith is passed on by contact, from one person to another, just as one candle is lighted from another” – Pope Francis.
Christians who make a difference are building blocks or stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. At first the apostles themselves were like that—stumbling blocks, and bit by bit they realized that following Jesus can be seen in many ways: “There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my namewho can at the same time speak ill of me.For whoever is not against us is for us.Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drinkbecause you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.” (Mk 9:38-43)That’s the way of Jesus. That’s faith as a way of life—making a big difference in life is being a true follower of the Lord.
Let us meet Jesus in many ways, and help others meet Jesus.
