Baptism
Congratulations! We believe that every child is a precious gift of God. It is truly wonderful that you wish to share your faith with your child, for Jesus Himself said: “Let the children come to me.”
How old can my child be to be baptized?
Children may be baptized as an infant up until their 7th birthday. If the child is older than seven (7) years old, they need to attend the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) sessions to prepare for the Sacrament of Baptism.
What is the process for my child to be baptized?
- Review our parish Baptism Pamphlet.
- Complete and submit the baptism registration form and submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate. The registration form and the copy of the birth certificate can be sent via e-mail to faith formation at merry.kaelani@dsj.org or dropped off at the parish office.
- Schedule a baptism preparation class for parents and godparents. Classes are currently done virtually on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 pm. To schedule for a class, contact Merry Kaelani in faith formation at merry.kaelani@dsj.org or at (408) 294-8953 ext. 320.
If you have attended a baptism preparation class within the past two years, you must submit documentation as proof of attendance.
If the pre-baptismal class is taken at another Catholic parish, you must provide documentation from the parish indicating that you have attended their pre-baptismal class.
If the Baptism is planned at another parish, we ask for a donation of $30 for an individual or $40 for two people.
- After the baptism preparation class has been completed, contact one of our parish priests directly to schedule a brief interview and the baptism.
On what day may I celebrate the baptism of my child?
Baptisms take place once a month at Mass. Baptisms can also take place outside of Mass on the first Saturday of each month.
What is the standard offering for baptizing my child?
Please call the Parish Office for further information.
